Prince Had Wanted To Be A Mentor For Chris Brown
An unearthed interview from last year reveals that Prince had tried to reach out out to Chris Brown.
In late 2014, Rolling Stone held an in-depth interview with Prince at his Paisley Park estate that had never seen the light of day until now. In the wake of Prince's shocking death last month, that interview has inspired Rolling Stone to publish a "lost cover story" on the late musical icon.
At the time, Prince affirmed that he was celibate and that he often went extended periods of time without food or water (seemingly more extreme than the current lifestyle of Young Thug). He also revealed that he had reached out to be a mentor to Chris Brown.
Prince brought up Brown after being asked to comment on the death of Michael Jackson. "I don't want to talk about it," Prince had initially responded. "I'm too close to it," he said, before relating Jackson's downfall to that of other star musicians:
"He is just one of many who have gone through that door -- Amy Winehouse and folks. We're all connected, right, we're all brothers and sisters, and the minute we lock that in, we wouldn't let anybody in our family fall. That's why I called Chris Brown. All of us need to be able to reach out and just fix stuff. There's nothing that's unforgivable."
Brown's infamous assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna transpired in March 2009, less than four months before Jackson's death. Of course, Brown has had his own struggles since the damning assault case, and Prince never specifically mentioned why he chose to reach out to the R&B singer
